New Accelerated Development Pathway Annouced

Europe’s Leading Soccer Academy is Coming to Barnies

In conjunction with Sporting Club Victoria, Australia’s official Sporting CP representative, Altona Magic and Barnstoneworth United Junior Football Club are excited to announce a development partnership with Sporting CP, Portugal’s most famous soccer team, to establish Sporting’s Youth Academy System - right here with Barnies and Altona Magic.

Sporting CP’s Youth Academy is renowned world wide for the continual development of world class players and includes four time winner of the FIFA Ballon d’Or award - Cristiano Ronaldo.  It is regularly regarded as one of the top 3 European Youth Academies.

The educational methods provided to the young footballing students at this fabled breeding ground have led players to Champions League winner’s medals, Ballon d’Or trophies and the very summit of the game.

The establishment of the Development Academy will provide a pathway for our talented kids from Barnies, to the NPL with Altona Magic and where talent is appropriate, international transfers within the Academy structure itself.

More immediately, a squad of 32 players will be chosen for both U12’s and U13’s.  These boys will be the ‘foundation’ accelerated development teams and will be divided to play on game day with either Barnies or Altona Magic.  Training of the squad will include combined squad training and team based training sessions.

The squads will have access to video analysis (which will be reviewed for feedback by the Sporting CP analysis team) as well as the official Sporting CP Youth Academy Curriculum.  Training and match day will be overseen and guided by Sporting Academy Coaches.

It is anticipated that in Season 2019, all age groups from Under 12 – Under 18 will participate in the academy structure and learnings, whilst Under 7 – Under 11 will have available the specialised Sporting CP approach for youth development.

This is an exciting chapter for Barnies, Altona Magic and more broadly, for Soccer in the Western Suburbs.
